Have you ever experienced the coldness during very cold weather even with your winter coat on? If yes, you should be able to understand how freezing cold your cat could feel if you leave it unprotected for some time. This is not something that can be taken lightly as the coldness may leads to hypothermia, and when such medical condition get worst, it can be life threatening.????

It is important for you to be aware where your feline is during very cold winter. If your cat has the habit of answering to the call of nature outdoor, make sure it is back in the house within minutes. Kittens, cats suffering from any illness or cats with thin covering of fur coat should be restricted from getting out of the house.

Try using litter box in the house during cold days. Make sure your feline?s fur coat stays dry during this period, and if for whatever reasons it get itself drenched, make sure you dry it immediately even it happened indoor.?

It is the best option to keep your pet indoor during cold days. Make sure it cannot find its way out to the cold world because if it gets too far and the visibility is down to a few meters due to heavy snowing, your pet would stand a high chance of loosing its way home. And if it is out in such freezing environment for too long, the risk of capturing hypothermia will definitely be high.

So what exactly is hypothermia? Well it is a medical condition resulted from extreme coldness which could lead to malfunction of organs in the body. If your cat is exposed to extremely cold temperature, frostbite might occur as its body needs to warm up the important organs by shutting down less important body parts.

Observe your cat carefully and if its movement starts to slow down, body begins to shiver and breathing becomes shallower, it most probably suffering from hypothermia. Do what it takes to gently warm your pet up or else, it would eventually pass out and die.

The correct bird house can bring enjoyment and viewing pleasure from the comfort of your own home.

Selecting the correct bird house or feeder is important to attracting birds to your yard. There is a wide variety available from very decorative to functional. With the right selection you can have an attractive addition to your yards landscape and give your feathered friends a functional place to nest.

When selecting a bird house there are many factors to consider. Many bird houses have small openings suited to birds like wrens. Many birds will not nest in a house that has multiple chambers preferring a single box structure. Do not place your house near a feeder but try to place it near convenient cover for the birds. Near by bushes or trees will give the nesting birds a place to dart to when they sense danger.

Nesting birds will seek areas away from the commotion of feeders and bird baths but these structures will aid in attracting nesting birds. Convenient water and food sources in another area of your yard will provide an easy source of needed sustenance for the birds that have selected you bird house to nest.

Do not face the opening of your bird house to the South or East. The direct sunlight from these directions will cause your bird house to be to warm in the morning and mid-day hours.

Try to mount your bird house on a pole or post rather than hanging it from a tree. A post will protect your nesting birds from back yard predators.

Keeping your bird house clean is very important to the health of birds that have selected your structure and to your family. Clean your bird house every spring. Remember to wear gloves and a face mask when cleaning your bird house. Cleaning will not only protect the health of the birds but will ensure your bird house can be an eye catching element of your landscape for many years.

Make sure to keep your feeders and bird baths clean and full of food and water. You may have to fill you water source a couple times throughout the day.

With thought, planning and a little maintenance the addition of a bird house can bring birds to your yard every year to give you viewing pleasure in your own back yard.

Successful hamster breeding requires that you have lots of spare time and have large amounts of patience. You need to follow some basis steps for successfully breeding hamsters. Below you’ll find our guide to enjoy this wonderful part of hamster keeping.

Preparation required for breeding hamsters:

You will first need to buy the mother and father hamster. Breeding hamsters from different families is fine, but you must ensure that it is from the same breed type. Breeding sibling hamsters is not suggestible. This can cause birth defects for some hamster breeds.

Female hamster are known to be territorial. So, for the mating ritual, never put the male hamster into the cage of the female as there is a possibility she might kill him. Initially it is better to put the cages of the male and female hamster side by side. This will allow them to get familiar with each other without the fear of any battle cropping up. Another good option is to put both the male and female hamster in a new cage. Follow this step by step procedure to ensure safe mating. First, they should be kept together for only 5 minutes. After few days the duration of time can be increased to 10 minutes.

As soon as the mating process is over the male and female hamster should be separated. There are cases recorded where the male hamsters have been known to eat the babies once the mother gives birth. To avoid this, keep the male hamster separated from the female hamster at all times, unless mating the pair.

After the gestation period of 15 to 18 days the babies will be born. In fact you will notice some swelling on the stomach of the female hamster on the 10th day. Make sure you clean the cage on the 14th day because you will not be able to do so after the birth of the babies. The mother hamster will keep moving round the cage while giving birth to the babies. Sometimes during the birthing process she’ll move the babies to her next, other times she’ll wait to pick up the babies until she is finished giving birth. Either way is fine.

After the birth of the babies, do not go near them or even try to touch them, however tempting it might be. If by chance your scent gets passes on to the babies, the mother hamster might stop caring for them, or in the worst case scenario will eat them. You can occasionally change the water supply the regular food supply to maintain cleanliness. At the end of three weeks, you can detach the babies from the mother and put them in a new cage.

Physical bird barriers are used to keep pest birds from landing and roosting on flat surfaces such as ledges, window sills, parapet walls, channel letters and other surfaces you do not want birds. This type of bird barrier keeps pest birds away by creating a physical deterrent; they can not land on or enter the area protected. Physical bird barriers include bird spikes, electric shock systems, bird netting and bird spring wires.

Bird spikes are the most common bird barriers in use today. When a ledge is covered with bird spikes, it makes it impossible for pest birds such as pigeons and seagulls to land, so they will move on to a more hospitable area. Bird spikes are easy to install, economical and require little to no maintenance.

Electric shock systems are extremely low profile bird barriers that will work with all pest birds. These systems give the birds a slight shock or ?jolt? that quickly changes their habits and desire to land in the area protected.

Bird netting is used to completely exclude birds from areas such as under loading docks and eaves, airplane hangars, warehouses and other enclosed areas. Once installed bird netting is a practically invisible bird barrier. It has a long life with little to not maintenance required.

Visual Bird Barriers are those that cause some sort of visual distraction to the birds. The birds will become confused or agitated and move on to a more suitable area. Ideal places to use visual bird barriers are in trees, on boats, in vineyards, and other outdoor areas you want to keep pest birds from. Visual barriers include, flash tape, scary balloons, bird diverters and even such items as hanging cds. Visual deterrents are effective if they are moved around so that the birds do not get used to them.

Sonic or Sound Bird Barriers are devices that create a sound that scares the birds away. These units will usually play some sort of predator call and target bird distress calls. Sound deterrents are best used out of doors in wide-open places. Being heard for over an acre of land; they are very loud. They make the ideal deterrent for use on orchards, vineyards, landfills and electrical substations; open areas where it is impossible to use physical bird barriers.

The time and money spent to install some type of bird barrier is well worth the investment. In the long run it will save you all of the time and money spent each year on clean-up and repairs to the damage left behind by pest birds. Some bird barriers are easy to install while others may require a professional.

Aquarium keeping is a sensitive hobby and no mistake is admissible as it may cost life of some beautiful, living creature. The right place to have a profound knowledge about this sensitive topic is a library or access to internet. It provides ample information to beginners about right fish, right tank size and quality of water. Some basic points which are considered must in this field are here for your convenience.

1. The first and foremost thing regarding a quality fish tank is the knowledge of nitrogen cycle. Fish produce some toxic chemical like ammonia, nitrates and nitrites and nitrogen cycle is the best remedy to get rid of such unwanted chemicals.

2. Most of the beginner hobbyists find it really difficult to control the quantity of ammonia in their tanks. To solve their problem, starter kits are available in the markets which help them in artificially maintaining the degree of ammonia in their aquariums. Most of them find it quite helpful.

3. Another plus point of the beginner kits is it provides adequate information about the type of fish while considering the quality of water that automatically produce a controlled quantity of ammonia in the tank.

4. If you have cold water in your tank and you are beginner then it is a good advice to keep goldfish in your tank. They are tropical and will be the perfect choice.

5. Plantation in the tank is also of great importance. Plants boost the beauty of the tank, resist diseases, provide oxygen to fish and purify water. Thus make sure that your tank contains adequate plantation.

6. These water plants are helpful in the degradation of hard water and ammonia. Thus they are quite helpful in the filtration cycle of the tank.

7. Plants are also cardinal in a sense that they control the balance of all chemicals in the water.

8. A good point to remember when you are filtering your tank for ammonia and using the starter fish for the purpose is, “feed your fish with the minimum quantity of food in the beginning”.

9. The extra amount of food that is uneaten by fish can produce toxic chemical when accumulated. Thus it is recommended to feed fish with the specified food in a limited quantity (consumable within two to three minutes by fish) and only twice a day. The extra food may turn itself into poison.

10. Ammonia being the most dangerous thing in a water tank requires a regular base check. Thus keep an eye on its level and take proper steps where required.

11. Regarding the time of ammonization, it usually takes 5 weeks for the whole process.

12. The right stand for a right tank must be there to avoid any position problems for the aquarium.

13. Algae grow well in sunlight or artificial lights. Thus never expose your aquarium to direct sunlight or heaters.

14. Rinse the purchased gravel before you put it in the tank. Absolutely clean gravel is important for the quality of the tank. Boil them at least once before putting them down.

15. The right technique of placing gravel in the tank is starting from the back and then coming towards front

16. Height of gravel depends upon the type of fish and filter in the tank. Make sure that the gravel layer in the front is very low.

17. Keep the front of the gravel level very low if you are using under-gravel filters.

18. Install the filter before adding the gravel if you wish your filter powered one.

19. To maintain the purity of water, add plants and other ornaments and keep changing them regularly.

20. Regarding the nature of plants, always choose marine plants for the tanks.

21. It is good to fill the tank initially with pre- treated water half the way.

22. Fill the tank with required amount of water when you are done with the additives.

23. Keeping an eye on the temperature of the water in the tank is equally essential. Keep this in mind.

24. Then the next step is placing of the filters. Be careful.

25. It is better to use goldfish while you are ammonizing the tank. Don’t use any other fish till the process ends.

26. Never use new fish in the tank until you make sure that the water is crystal clear.

27. The tradition is to start with a single fish or four different types of hardy fish, one of each type for the new tank. You may opt to any of it.

28. To acclimatize the fish to the water temperature of the tank is a critical point. So you should afloat fish in a bag into the tank for about twenty minutes before leaving it open in the water tank.

29. To avoid any contamination, you should not add the bag water to the aquarium while you are transferring the fish from the bag into the tank.

30. A check on the proper lighting of the aquarium is also essential. A hood may help you in doing so.

When training your pets, you may notice that different dogs behave differently, and they may respond in various ways to your training methods. The right thing to do, is to observe their behavior and be tolerant if they make mistakes during training. As a good trainer, you should never try to instill fear into your pet. Over time, the dog will learn to fear the owner, and tends to run away when the owner arrives. As a pet owner, you want the pup to be closer to you. With fear, the distance between you can your pet will drift further apart.

In other words, as you train your dog, you need to aware of the inner world of your pet. That is where behavior analysis comes in. In the beginning, you may not know what the behavior means. What you can do, however, is to pay attention and take note of the behavior. You can always consult other pet owners or a professional specialist later on if you still can’t figure out why your pet is behaving in a certain manner. Below is a list of commonly seen behavior.

Barking is the only way a pup knows how to attract attention. For sure, you know that the pup needs some attention. Your job, is to figure out why your pet is barking unnecessarily. There are many reasons that may account for the excessive barking. For instance, it may be suffering from separation anxiety and all it needs is some company. It may be left in the crate for too long, and it’s getting bored. Or it may be suffering from some health issues. Don’t just scold or cane the dog just because it’s barking. That is jumping to conclusions. Investigate first to find out the cause. Punishment is usually unnecessary.

In many ways, dogs behave like children. They sometimes have a short attention span, and need things to keep themselves occupied. This is especially true for puppies. If they are left alone with nothing to play with, they will run around the house and start nibbling at your furniture. Soon, you will notice unsightly marks on your wooden furniture. To solve this problem, have a room for your puppy, and keep it occupied with lots of toys. There are many types of toy bones in the market. Those silicon types will do just fine.

Some dogs have a strong digging instinct. These are dogs that will chase after smaller animals, or dig holes in the garden or the back yard. The Jack Russell is one such example. Understand that the dog is just following its instincts. However, with proper training, these dogs can become obedient. Be patient with the dogs, especially if they are just puppies.

Most of the behavioral problems are caused by the natural personalities of the dogs, or by health issues. Therefore, to investigate the cause, always check for health problems. If the pet is perfectly healthy, then it’s just the dog being its playful self.

Everyone has photos of their pets after all they become part of the family to the point of taking on the role of a child.

We start going on shopping sprees for “basic items” and usually get to the counter and when the total amount comes up, the blood drains from our faces and its one of those “Oops I overspent” then we tell ourselves that he or she’s worth it.

We love our pets and they give us unconditional love and affection, They don’t care about if we’re unemployed or a CEO of a company, live on the streets or a million dollar mansion, gay or straight, what colour our skin is or how crap our day went.

Unlike photos that can fade, be blurred or something else in the photo can distract the person looking at our pet, a pet portrait will be only focused on your pet. It can be so realistic that you can feel the fur and especially in portraits of cats the eyes will follow the person around the room.

In the case of when the pet dies which is heartbreaking a portrait of the pet that you have just lost can be a momento of how your pet was, the strange but unique way he or she looked, the way the fur lay that strange way and would never sit the way you wanted it to.
It a personal way of remembering your pet and will bring back memories and emotions and through the emotions you learn how to smile again.

We all buy art of some description, it brightens up our walls, gives our homes a unique, personal individual touch that says to visitors what inspires us, what kind of person we are, our likes and dislikes.
How many homes have we gone into and looked around their pictures and photos on their walls and tables. Its a conversation starting point and an insight into other peoples lives.

If we have portraits our our kids and our pets that we adore are like our kids then why don’t we have portrait of our pets after all they are like our kids and part of the family and at times we would get rid of our partners before we would get rid of our pet.
